How We’re Supporting Cancer Support Suffolk – Charity Golf Day

Cancer Support Suffolk is holding a charity golf day at Seckford Golf Club on Friday, 19th July and we at Billie Box are supporting this event by sponsoring a golf hole.

Billie Box has in the past supported Cancer Campaign in Suffolk, which is now named Cancer Support Suffolk. This is a local charity and we wish to give back to the community by supporting this event.

The golf day is one of many events held over the course of the year. Events like this attract welcome funds to support them.

Cancer support in Suffolk

At Cancer Support Suffolk they are focused on life before, during and after cancer. They aim to educate our Suffolk community about the signs and symptoms prior to its arrival, support cancer patients during treatment through non-clinical therapies and provide a safe space in their wellbeing workshops in the latter part of treatment and beyond.

We at Billie Box want to support them wherever possible and with such a large percentage of us having experienced cancer in some way (all three of us included), it is our way of giving back and knowing we can make a difference to our local community.

Our Commitment to the Community

Here at Billie Box, we are dedicated to supporting the local community. There are many worthy charities that need our help.

We try to build trust by giving back to our local community. We feel that by supporting our community our customers understand and put trust in our work ethics. It creates social responsibility, demonstrates our commitment and enforces our good reputation.

The Importance of Supporting Cancer Support in Suffolk

Set up in 1998, Cancer Support Suffolk is run with a passion for helping the Suffolk community. Their dedicated team includes complementary therapists, counsellors, educators, ambassadors and business brains that come together to educate and support the people of Suffolk.

Sadly, cancer probably won’t be eradicated totally in our lifetime and so for as long it is here, there will always be a need for this great charity.

If you wish to see how this charity has made a difference to people’s lives, then have a look at their website.

Conclusion

We wish the day a great success and look forward to seeing photos of the day and hearing how much has been raised for this fantastic charity.

The impact on these families is huge and this service to the local community is much needed.

Building Trust Through Giving Back: Our Charity and Sponsorship Commitments

Introducing Our Commitment

For the last 12 years we have committed to many different local charities and organisations. We want to give back to the community and we feel this is the best way to do it.

Please view our ESG Policy here.

Making a Difference

Throughout 2024 we have committed to the following organisations:

FFSC Sponsorship

We continue to sponsor the Felixstowe Ferry Sailing club (FFSC) which offers a great way to get out on the water. With the North Sea and the River Deben on the doorstep, this enables a wide variety of watersports.

The sailing schedule includes regular sailing (racing and for pleasure) for the members. There are dinghies available for hire too.

There is a rowing section that goes out at various regular times of the week.

Yachting is another option, although the members do own their own boats.

The club runs a training centre that offers RYA sailing and powerboat training courses to all ages.

Youth sailing is available for ages 10-18 years old. There is a variety of sailing which includes getting RYA sailing qualifications.

There is a great restaurant and bar for the members and their guests.

In May 2024 an Open day is being held during which the club will offer free sailing & rowing taster sessions.

In August 2024 there is also a National 12 championship scheduled. This includes the best of the National 12 sailors coming to Felixstowe from all over the UK.

Jane has been a member for nearly 60 years. Here is the history of her attachment to the club.

Home-Start in Suffolk

The Home-Start in Suffolk charity approached Jane to partake in the ‘Jail & Bail’ event. It was held in March 2024. The idea was to arrest Jane, AKA ‘The Container Queen’, for the crime of being ‘Too Boxtastic’, then take her to Woodbridge town hall (the old Jail back in the day) and she had to raise £1,000 to get bail.

Jane raised just under £1,200 (thanks to many local friends, family and businesses). Jane was arrested with another 9 local business people. The whole group raised £12,000. Phew, thankfully she got released!

In May 2024 the Moonlight Ball is happening again and Billie Box has sponsored a table for the night. Jane has also committed to helping collect raffle and auction prizes and selling raffle tickets on the night. Let’s hope this raises some much-needed funds for this worthy charity.

Jane has reached out to many local businesses that are supporting the Moonlight ball. These include:

Yeseo, 1975 Winebar Woodbridge, Ruth Leigh writes, MCP Plc., Polyspiral Web Design, Simply C Photography, Natasha is Wideeyed, Woodbridge Book shop, Chaffinch, The Burgess Group, Felixstowe Ferry Sailing Club, Christopher Montrose coffee, Busy Bee Cosmetics, and Yoga with Manon.

If you are a local business wishing to get involved then please call Jane on  01473 557409 to pledge your support.

Home-Start charity offers a service to around 2500 families in need throughout Suffolk. Volunteers help families to cope with family life. These families may have money worries, mental health issues, or may just be needing a friend to talk to. It is a much-needed local service.

Lighthouse Charity

Billie Box has offered a raffle prize for the Anglia business exhibition in May 2024. The Lighthouse charity offers shelter to those men and women being abused in our local area.

Felixstowe Book Festival

Billie Box has sponsored the Felixstowe Book Festival event once before and as Jane is a keen reader, she felt that it would be worth supporting again this year.

The event runs from 26th to 30th June with various authors showcasing their new books. It attracts many visitors from the local area and from further afield.

The event is held in Felixstowe (the largest port in the UK).

Suffolk Sounds Radio Station

Jane from Billie Box has been on Jules Button’s Suffolk Sounds radio show a few times and has offered to sponsor this ‘Non-profit making’ radio station.

Supporting Causes Together

We have been trading for 12 years now and have gathered a network of business contacts that often help support our requests. We thank them for their support, as it is always much appreciated.

As a local business, we understand how difficult it can be out there. We really wanted to give back to the local community.

We thank you for all your support and will try to continue to support local charities and businesses as we have done before.

How You Can Get Involved: Join Us in Making a Difference

Please follow and offer to volunteer or support these charities and businesses. The more help they can get, the better.

Here is a list of their websites:

Charity 2020/21/22

Jane, Matt & Clare have been really busy over the last 10 years and as part of Billie Box’s business policy they have been supporting various charities in the local area and further afield.

2020-22 has seen a huge number of Covid cases, which has been a worrying time for many Worldwide households.

2022 Russia went to war with Ukraine. Oh my goodness what an awful time for the Ukrainian people. So with this thought Jane, Matt and Clare decided to donate to the Disasters Emergency Committee. Let’s hope that this donation goes a little to helping.

2022 Billie Box continues to support Youth Sailing at Felixstowe Ferry. Let’s hope the youngsters can get out and enjoy all the River Deben and the sea nearby.

2021 Matt decided to cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats in aid of the St. Elizabeth Hospice, Ipswich. Billie Box sponsored him. Such a great challenge, well done Matt for doing it. We know it was a tough one!

With Covid-19 causing such mayhem, Jane, Matt & Clare realised that many people have been struggling as well as the Charities.

So at the start of the Pandemic, Jane was writing postcards of encouragement to the elderly on a weekly basis via Age UK Suffolk. Sadly, Age UK suffolk shut their doors in 2020, which meant the postcards would not be forwarded to the people that needed them. Jane then decided to support a Care home in Felixstowe by writing to their residents, giving them, hopefully, a little smile on a monthly basis.  This month Jane and Matt thought that a gift of a colouring book and pencils might be fun, so with the help of Woodbridge Emporium, Jane delivered them.

In 2020 Jane and Matt had seen that many low income families were really struggling to make ends meet. Billie Box’s friend Darrell Smith of Archway Carpets is an ambassador for Home Start Suffolk. A charity that supports local families with food deliveries, mental health and general support. So throughout 2020 Jane was shopping for food and delivering to Darrell for distribution.

Jo Revitt of Papworth Trust is another friend of Billie Box’s. Papworth Trust help and support their disabled clients with a range of high quality services such as housing, workshops and getting jobs. Jane and Matt have supported this charity on and off throughout the years. This particular support is to raise funds for a garden studio to be used as part of the Day centre.

Jane and Matt realised that 2021 was going to be an even more difficult time for those that are waiting for operations and treatment for illnesses that are not Covid-19. So this month Billie Box donated to the Blossom Appeal (breast cancer) run by the local Colchester & Ipswich Hospital Charity

These charities are just a few, but Billie Box has also supported the following:

For as long as Billie Box can, they will support local charity.

Charity 2020

Charity Support for 2020

Over the last 8 years, Billie Box has held 2 Billie Box Balls, 1 Midsummer party, 1 Afternoon tea, got locked up in a bank, cycled from London to Paris and made many donations to a fair number of charities. These charities include, St. Elizabeth Hospice, Age UK, Papworth Trust, Myeloma UK,  Centrepoint, Families in Need, Cancer Campaign in Suffolk, Clic Sargent, Lighthouse and many more.

During this really difficult time, Billie Box has realised that many charities are suffering and the people that benefit from each charity by the very nature will also suffer.

In order to help, Billie Box has made a small donation to the following charities:

Age UK Suffolk – towards the”Good Day Call”

Papworth Trust – towards the “Virtual Fundraising Challenge”

Colchester & Ipswich Hospital Trust – Support for the NHS staff Covid-19

Home-Start Suffolk – for their support to the local families in need.

If you can donate to these charities I am sure they will appreciate it.

Please do stay safe and well.

We raised £2,630.46 for Myeloma UK

Billie Box raised £2,630.46 for Myeloma UK

Tom Sanderson was singing and playing guitar throughout the event and there were a couple of presentation talks, one from the Longshed and another about Myeloma itself.

Myeloma is a form of incurable blood cancer originating in the bone marrow. The causes of myeloma are not fully understood but it is thought to be caused by a complex interaction of both genetic and environmental factors.

HSBC match-funded a proportion of the funds and Absolutely Natural clothing also had a stand outside the Riverside theatre,Woodbridge on the day and they kindly donated a percentage of their sales from the day.

Jane Billing, owner of Billie Box said “I would like to convey my thanks to all the supporters of our event; we really couldn’t have done it without you. Myeloma is not well known and we wanted to make the public aware of this awful illness, which affects many people around the UK.”.

Here some video of the event:

Billie Box sponsors the Mid Summer Party in aid of AGE UK Suffolk

Billie has been fundraising for many charities over the last 6 years. The most recent event was the Mid Summer Party at Seckford Golf club on 23rd June 2018 in aid of AGE UK Suffolk. AGE UK were celebrating their 70th anniversary.

Well what a night, it was so much fun. The party consisted of welcome drinks on arrival, 2 course dinner plus cheese and biscuits, Heads or Tails, Raffle, Auction and the highlight of the evening was a group called ‘Troubadour’. Troubadour were excellent, they sung a variety of songs from ‘The Jersey Boys’ show to ‘Earth wind and fire’ and many of the songs that we all love to dance to.

Billie Box has raised over £22,000.00 for Charity over the last 6 years.

Mid Summer Party 2018

Billie Box are sponsoring the Mid Summer Party 2018 in aid of Age UK Suffolk.

Over the last 5 years, Billie Box has raised funds for many charities. A lot of the fundraising was for cancer-related charities. Previously, Billie Box has held 2 Billie Box Balls, so this year (2018) instead of Cancer and a Ball we thought we would sponsor a ‘Mid Summer Party’ to raise funds for Age UK Suffolk. This charity is another worthwhile cause.

The Mid summer party (23rd June 2018) was designed to be a fun night with lots happening, we have Troubadour (I have had it on very good authority that this band are excellent), we have food (2-course dinner, cheeseboard and welcome drink) Heads & Tails, Raffle and auction. All the makings of a great night out.

With this in mind, why not join in with the festivities?

If you can’t make the event, then why not sponsor or offer a raffle or auction prize? Please call Jane @ Billie Box on T: 01473 557409

Tiffers The Bus Shelter Ipswich

Billie Box sponsors Tiffers the Bus Shelter in Ipswich.

When Jane saw Tiffers The Bus Shelter on the BBC Lookeast news bulletin, she felt moved to help this worthwhile charity.

They select 5 rough sleepers to live on board the bus with them, the bus is static in one place, at the moment they are in a lay by as they do not have any permanent land, but the bus provides a warm safe haven for the 5 guests to enable them to get back to a ‘normal’ life.

Tiffers The Bus Shelter runs a charity shop in order to raise funds to carry on paying for the ongoing maintenance of the bus and feed their patrons. They rely totally on donations and the support of the shop.
It costs approximately £25k per year to run the bus (that’s not including any major vehicle repairs).
There are 14 places on the bus which equates to £1,785.00 per guest per year.
